MG-TD/TF Wood Wheels

We use your original hub and spokes and rebuild with a laminated maple/mahogany wood rim.

The original cast plastic from the early British Wheel manufacturer's shrinks and splits after being subjected to sun and heat. With some wheels, there is very little rim thickness left. As an alternative to recasting or dealing with the original material, we laminate a wood rim on the existing wheel frame. Using alternate layers of Mahogany and Maple (7), the resulting wheel adds a distinctive look to to your interior without losing the unique MG hub and spokes look.
All wheels are hand made (this is not a large manufacturing company). The hubs are polished and can be used as is, or repainted (by the customer) to match the original hub colour. Discoloured spokes (if possible) are cleaned and polished to match the hub.

Rims are built in two parts, epoxied to the frame and the wood halves laminated. The rim is then finished in one piece, decorative aluminum rivets are used.

Customer's wheels must be straight ... only the original plastic rim can be replaced, straightening wheels, or welding broken spokes is not an available service and is not recommended due to safety concerns. Occasionaly we can provide the finished rim and wheel - Wood Rim laminated in place and finished with "Spar Varnish" / Hub and spokes polished- $350.00
